Services
- I provide treatment for psychological conditions that typically cause intense suffering and coping difficulty. These conditions include:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Overwhelming stress or conflict
- Work-related stress or disability
- I use a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approach. CBT has been shown to be effective for these problems, either on its own or in combination with psychiatric medication. CBT involves a limited number of sessions, usually 5-15.
- To learn more about the CBT approach, you may wish to download my self management workbook, the Antidepressant Skills Workbook. You can download this at no cost.
- Appointments are set weekly during the initial phase of treatment, then spaced out to once every 2-4 weeks unless the client prefers weekly sessions. This approach to scheduling allows you to work on important changes between sessions and also makes the treatment more affordable, since CBT is not covered by public health insurance.
- Many extended health plans provide some coverage. Be sure to check with your plan. Fees paid to a Registered Psychologist are tax-deductible under the “medical expenses” section. If you are self-employed, fees paid to a psychologist are tax-deductible as a business expense.
- In addition, I provide consultation to organizations wishing to improve psychological health and safety in their workplace. I do this in partnership with Dr. Merv Gilbert: see psychhealthandsafety.org for more information.
